Selsey has been a popular destination for visitors for many years and made easier for tourists following the opening of the Selsey tramway in 1897. From the early 1900s Selsey has been promoted as a seaside resort known for sunshine, fresh air, beauty, tranquillity, and safe bathing. Selsey became even more popular once people began to own cars. Visitors came to enjoy a holiday either camping or staying at one of many caravan parks or at one of the hotels. Selsey also had Broadreeds Holiday camp from the 1930s, which later became Pontins. Selsey continues to attract holidaymakers throughout most of the year.
